Central Banking and Sustainability

A new collective book edited by Kern Alexander (University of Zürich) and Seraina Grünewald (University of St. Gallen) explores the evolving relationship between central banking and sustainability.

The volume brings together contributions to examine the role central banks can and should play in addressing sustainability and climate-related challenges from various perspectives (legal-doctrinal analysis, qualitative empirical analysis, and economic theory). It covers a range of perspectives, including central bank new mandates, climate-related financial risks, democratic legitimacy of green central banking, and the institutional boundaries of central bank action.
